Annual MGO Industry Cooperation Meet (AMICOM) - 2017
MGO Branch of the Army, which is responsible for the operational readiness of Indian Army's vast array of weapon systems, vehicles and equipment, in its ongoing quest for ensuring their effective sustenance and to make the best of the opportunity of 'Make in India' initiative of the Government of India has put in place an institutionalised mechanism in the form of Annual MGO Industry Cooperation Meet (AMICOM) to serve as a platform for Indian Army and industry to share the requirements, capabilities and concerns.
AMICOM-2015 and AMICOM-2016 were organized in collaboration with the CII in New Delhi and drew enthusiastic and positive response from the industry and has led to a gradual building up of the vendor base in critical areas of equipment sustenance. The AMICOM is an important fixture of the MGO's annual calendar and is a much awaited event by the Indian industry.
Aim
The aim of AMICOM is to provide the Indian industry a comprehensive insight into challenges faced in sustenance of Indian Army's equipment and the opportunities it offers to the industry, as also, to evolve/review a roadmap to achieve maximum indigenisation and self-dependency in the spares domain of defence equipment through a collaborative approach.
Objectives
The broad objectives of AMICOM are as under:-
- To give the industry an overview of the revenue procurement process and the indigenization procedures and update them on recent Govt and Army policy initiatives to promote indigenisation
- To release Army's five year sustenance requirements in respect of all imported inventory and critical deficiencies with all essential details in order to enable the industry to evaluate them for indigenous production
- To organize presentations/discussions/Q&A sessions to address common concerns of the industry
- To provide the industry an opportunity to interact with concerned MoD and Army officials to clarify their individual queries
Theme
As the pace of indigenisation, despite best efforts, has only been slow to moderate so far, the theme chosen for AMICOM-2017'Evolving New Strategies to Fast-track Indigenisation'. The seminar will deliberate upon the new initiatives in the indigenization policies and thereby enhanced business opportunities for the industry. The event will also be accompanied by the release of 'Olive Pages' which shall contain the five year requirement of ex import items planned to be indigenised, contact details of defence procurement agencies and procedures for submitting expression of interest for selecting items for indigenisation.
AMICOM-17 will provide an ideal platform to the Industry, in particular the MSME sector, to have a good understanding of Army's requirements, procedures and concerns. Sections of Industry that aspire to enter the defence sector through the revenue route and make the best of the business opportunities available will benefit immensely from the event.
